From Girl to Goddess: The Heroine's Journey through Myth and Legend by Valerie Estelle Frankel

From Girl to Goddess: The Heroine's Journey through Myth and Legend

Happy New Year to All!  I have lots of things planned for this year as well as this month. Let's start the year with another one-day bargain...

From Girl to Goddess: The Heroine's Journey through Myth and Legend by Valerie Estelle Frankel, another McFarland publication, is available for $2.99 in a Kindle edition for today only. The paperback edition is $31.50 so this is a considerable savings. Remember that you don't have to have a Kindle to read a Kindle book, you can load the free software on your PC, Mac, smart phone and other devices. If you buy the book, it stays in your permanent library whether you download it to a device right away or not.

Valerie has been known to stop by SurLaLune and I only recently discovered her book during the holidays when I was too bogged down to discover more. It was published in October, so I'm not too late to the party...

Here is the book description from the publisher:

Many are familiar with Joseph Campbell's theory of the hero's journey, the idea that every man from Moses to Hercules grows to adulthood while battling his alter-ego. This book explores the universal heroine's journey as she quests through world myth. Numerous stories from cultures as varied as Chile and Vietnam reveal heroines who battle for safety and identity, thereby upsetting popular notions of the passive, gentle heroine. Only after she has defeated her dark side and reintegrated can the heroine become the bestower of wisdom, the protecting queen and arch-crone.
You can also read more about the book on Frankel's website at The Heroine's Journey.

And if you prefer paper, here is a cover and link:
